Titan Name Generator

Greek titans bore names describing cosmic functions: Kronos (time), Hyperion (the high one), Prometheus (forethought). Titan names convey primordial power predating the gods themselves.

About titan names

The twelve Titans of Greek mythology were children of Ouranos (Sky) and Gaia (Earth), and their names describe the fundamental forces they embodied: Kronos (time), Hyperion (the one above), Mnemosyne (memory), Themis (natural law), Oceanus (the world-ocean). These names are not arbitrary but cosmological labels.

Titans in modern fiction (Attack on Titan, God of War, Warhammer 40K) have expanded far beyond the Greek twelve. The key naming principle remains: a titan's name should suggest something elemental, ancient, and operating on a scale beyond mortal comprehension. These are not characters but forces of nature with names.

Naming tips

Name for cosmic function, not personality

Titans embody abstract concepts and primordial forces. "Kronos" means "time," not "the guy who ate his children." Name your titans for what they ARE in the cosmos, not what they do in the plot.

Use polysyllabic names with internal weight

Titan names need length and gravity. Three to four syllables with strong internal stress (hy-PER-i-on, pro-ME-the-us) create the sense of something monumental. Monosyllables are too small for beings that predate creation.

Draw from Greek or create parallel etymologies

If using Greek titans, their names already have established meanings. If inventing new ones, create transparent compound names in whatever language your world uses, following the same principle: the name describes the cosmic domain.
